Newbie Tuesdays Weekly Discussion

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 05:10 PM PDT

Hello members of the /r/hearthstone community,

This is part of a series of weekly threads aimed at both new and old players from the community. It is designed so that everybody may ask any and all questions regarding the game's mechanics, decks, strategies and more.

Please keep it clean and try to add more than just a one or two word response. As the goal of this post is to increase the community's knowledge, the thought process matters as much as the answer! There is also a Theorycrafting Thursday weekly post, for those who wish to discuss some of the more intricate aspects of the game.

Sticky Threads and Guides - Great resources for new players!

Note: I am a bot. Questions or feedback regarding this thread? Message the moderators.

Stancifka - My [Rank 1 Legend] Big Mage deck guide

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 02:01 PM PDT

Hello everyone, I had a lot of different questions about the Big Mage control I have been playing a lot in TOP25 legend on a lot of my streams, so I decided to write it down. The full version is here on Hearthpwn:

https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1050557-legend-rank-1-stancifkas-big-mage

But to sum it up, you take care of everything he tries to do while getting card advantage thanks to your AOE and Cabalist's Tome. As your opponent starts to run out of breath, you take over with Frost Lich Jaina as she is just insane. If something bad happens, you come back from dead with Ice Block and Arcane Artificer.

You can almost always keep Arcanologist, Raven Familiar and Dragon's Fury and always get rid of Ice Block, Baron Geddon, Flamestrike and Dragoncaller Alanna. Other cards are hard to say like this, but I went deeper in the guide.

Here is the code if you want to give it a try!

I hope we see some new "Enrage" minions in the Witchwood.

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 06:02 AM PDT

Today, I rolled the 50 gold Rampage quest, which says to "Play 10 Enrage minions". So I went to make a deck, and found that my options were quite limited! All the minions were either Warrior or Neutral, and no new ones have been printed since WotG.

Some other mechanic-themed quests get support with each expansion (e.g. "Tiny Bubbles Make Me Happy" -> more Divine Shield minions), but Enrage seems to be largely neglected.

What do you think? Is Enrage a mechanic worth pursuing, or should it be left to die?

For reference, here is the complete list of Enrage minions available.

Standard

  • [[Angry Chicken]]
  • [[Amani Berserker]]
  • [[Raging Worgen]]
  • [[Tauren Warrior]]
  • [[Spiteful Smith]]
  • [[Grommash Hellscream]]

Rotating

  • [[Bloodhoof Brave]]
  • [[Aberrant Berserker]]

Wild

  • [[Warbot]]

No problem, I'll just fireball the Nozdormu as fast as I can. Oh wait...

Just thought of a ludicrously complicated way to use Azalina Soulthief.

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 04:05 PM PDT

Step 1: make a horrible deck with Azalina, Togwaggle, Shadowcaster, and either brann or thaurisan.

Step 2: play either a discounted togwaggle into shadowcaster or a 1/1 shadowcaster that you made the previous turn, so that you have swapped decks with your opponent

Step 3: your opponent plays kings ransom to get their deck back.

Step 4: Play the 1/1 togwaggle to swap decks again, and then play Azalina Soulthief to get a copy of their hand, including the ransom.

Step 5: Now if they switch back, you can switch back again with the copy of King's Ransom you got from Azalina.

Check mate!

This artist who has done quite a bit of Hearthstone work in the past just posted this on his artstation. New card from Witchwood?

I saw some lore posts recently and had to share this. There is this criminally underrated hearthstone channel that goes into the lore behind some cards in crazy detail with really good production quality.

Simple lore of all HS Legendaries (N+O+P)

Posted: 19 Mar 2018 09:53 AM PDT

F+G H+I J+K L+M

Greetings, adventurers. Here for your daily fix of the lore? Good, good. Enjoy reading my mad ramblings, be sure to ask for additional info on heroes you would like to know more about. Comment any mistakes you have found and see you tommorow in the Ragnaros extravaganza episode.

N'Zoth, the Corruptor is said to be the weakest of Old Gods. He developed an inferior complex out of it and instead of raw power he uses manipulation and corruption to get his evil schemes across. Was similarly to Yogg'Saron imprisoned by the Titans, but his prison sank deep under the see when the Well of Eternity exploded (see Illidan's episode) and hasn't been seen for.. well ever, he's an elusive one. One of his manipulating jobs include whispering madness into Deathwing's ear until he attacked his fellow dragon friends using the Dragon Soul.

Nat Pagle is en extreme angler, as he proclaims himself. He doesn't really like fishing tho, he just fishes a lot and it's a great excuse to have a drink. So he's more of an organised alcoholic than fisher. Once again player stories made this seemingly random fisher into a lore legend. You see there was the legendary sword Ashbringer and despite never beeing added to the game, Blizzard loved to poke fun at players that it might be there, just very well hidden. One of those clues used to be Nat Pagle's Fishing diary where he writtes about how he fished up the legendary sword. This riled up every secret hunter and for a period of time everyone and their mother were fishing endlessly in random locations all over the world in hopes of acquiring the edge. This got so mental Blizzard had to make an official statement that Ashbringer is NOT in the game. Which of course sprung up even more chaotic secret hunting. Ever since than Blizzard rehashed Nat Pagle with every upcoming expansion.

Nat, the Darkfisher. After having the odd bottle at the end of a succesful fishing day, there was one fish that just didn't wanna give up. Pulling harder and harder Nat was losing the battle with the fish and when he finally gave in, the fish pulled him down under the water. Under there in the desperation of drowning he listened to the whispers coming from down bellow (read N'zoth), who offered him the ability to breathe underwater. Or I just made this up, Whispers of the Old Gods is the alternative timeline where the Old Gods won and twisted everything into their likings.

Nefarian is the eldest son of Deathwing and brother of Onyxia. After Deathwing headed for Draenor (see Gruul's episode pls) he tasked Nefarian with managing the Blackrock Mountain. Nefarian enslaved the orcs and ogres that made their temporal home in the mountain and battled the dark iron dwarfs and their summoned master Ragnaros who were the original owners of the mountain. In there Nefarian experimented with dragon corpses to create the ultimate chromatic dragonflight. Chromaggus was one of the experiments. Ultimately he meets his demise at the hands of adventurers. When Deathwing later went from stealthely schemeing and manipulating into 'let's just destroy the world lol', he left Deepholm, elemental plane outside of mortal world where he was resting, and found Nefarian dead in his old house. He reanimated him to keep the house running again. Didn't really last long as he was made a raid boss again.

Neptulon is the elemental lord of water. As every other elemental lords he too served the Old Gods in their endless chaotic battles on Azeroth, but now he's calmed down and occasionally helps the good cause. He is the most boring of them too, because he never stirs shit up or dies, he just vanished for a long fighting the underwater minions of N'zoth.

Nexus-Champion Saraad. Looks like the second iteration of the Argent Tournament is very lenient in who gets to participade. Ogres riding dinosaurs, murlocs riding frogs, gorrilas riding hippos, and etherial riding his etherial camel. Etherials are race of people whose planet was consumed by powerful Void Lord and their physical bodies with it. Now they are a floathing blobs of energy and they use wraps to shape themselves into humanoid bodies.

Nozdormu is the leader of bronze dragontflight, aspect of time. He, same al Malygos suffered greatly when Deathwing turned the Dragon Soul against his fellow flights. But his misery is also increased by the fact he knows everything that happens ever. At one point N'zoth breaks his will and talks him into becoming immortal and transcending all time, his flight turns into the Infinite dragonflight and they can travel all over the timeline trying to destroy time itself by changing important lore details. This all happens in the future, but Nozdormu knows when and at one point asks us to kill him in the future.

Old Murk-Eye "He's a legend among murlocs. "Mrghllghghllghg!", they say." This guy has no lore and even very little player experience. He wasn't especially rare or deadly or memorable, so I don't know why they decided to make him a HS card.

Onyxia is the daughter of Deathwing and sister of Nefarian. As part of her family tradition, she loves to fuck shit up. In her human guise she hired Edwin VanCleef's defias brotherhood to kidnap king Varian Wrynn and jail him on remote island. She then convinced the regent-lord Bolvar Fordragon to crown young prince Anduin and used this to rule the kingdom briefly through manipulating the regent-lord. At the end of an awfully long questline to unlock her instance, she gets slain by the adventurers and later ressurected by Nefarian, when Nefarian gets ressurected by Deathwing.

Open the Waygate. Un'goro is actually the playground of titan keepers (the dudes responsible of keeping the planet running) for experimentations with the wild life. Another one such playground is the Sholazar Basin in icy cold Northrend. In there you open a centuries old waygate the keepers used to quickly jump between these two remote places.

Ozruk is a giant mass of stone defending the world pillar in Deepholm. The Old God cultists infiltrated Deepholm in order to cause damage to the pillar, and managed to recruit Ozruk on their side. You need to slay Ozruk in order to stop the cultist from destroying the pillar. Ozruk was notoriously dificult dungeon boss, as he had many very unforgiving one-shot mechanics that a lot of players succumbed to. Once again a random boss who made it into lore by being remembered fondly.

Patches the Pirate is demon recruited into piracy. He has more patches than any other pirate, that makes him important. There's a pretty extensive story behind Patches outside the game Ben Brode shared. https://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/5baf9z/til_patches_the_pirate_is_the_tgt_removed_pirate/d9mzyae/

Prince Keleseth is one of the San'layn, the elite undead force of blood elves who met their defeat at the hand of Prince Arthas, when they aided Illidan in attempt to destroy the Lich King (go back to Illidan's story pls). Keleseth was tasked with overseeing the southeastern part of Northrend, where he meets his demise. He later comes back to avenge himself in the Blood Prince Council in Icecrow Citadel.

Prince Malchezaar is NOT one of the San'layn. He is EREDAR LORD OF THE BURNING LEGION, he's very fond of collecting priceless artifact and thus was drawn to Medivh's Karazhan tower after it was abandoned and now sorta 'rules' it. He is in possesion of Light's Justice and Gorehowl.

Prince Taldaram is one of the San'layn. He was tasked by Lich King on a covert mission inside the spider kingdom Azjol'Nerub, where he is found searching for ancient nerubian artifacts. He later joins his brothers on the Blood Prince Council in Icecrown Citadel.

Prince Valanar is one of the San'layn. Valanar was tasked with overseeing the southwestern part of Northrend. When Alliance lands on the western shores and builds a keep for future base of operations, he infiltrates them and tries to convict the generals to march right into Lich King's domain. He gets revealed and later joins the Blood Prince Council in Icecrown.

Princess Huhuran is NOT one of the San'Layn. Not even close, she's a matriarch in C'Thun controlled city of Ahn'Qiraj, along with other bug like creatures C'Thun invented as his personal army.

Professor Putricide is the mastermind behind all the undead viruses, scourge, plagues and blights. His infected grain was used to spring up the undead infestation in the human kingdoms.

Prophet Velen used to rule the eredar planet of Argus along with his two friends, Kil'Jaeden and Archimonde. Then the demon overlord Sargeras offered them immense power in exchange of serving him. Archie and KJ agreed, while Velen was skeptical. Turns out he was right, as the whole race of eredars turned into horrific powerful demons thanks to Sargeras's gift. Velen and few others escaped and have been espacing ever since, as KJ and Archie have been hunting him down for his treason. Eventually Velen and his uncorrupted brothers crash landed their spaceship on an orc planet called Draenor. They made friends with the orcs and lived peacefully. After few centuries KJ found them out and instead of head on attacking he choose to whisper into the ears of orcs to turn them against Velen's people. Gul'Dan was one of the first to accept Kil'Jaeden's proposition and started teaching orcs demonic magic, then they got all the orc clans together to form a mighty Horde and hunted Velen's people down to near extinction. After they purged the continent, their newly acquired bloodlost needed to be sated otherwise, so Gul'Dan among with Medivh opened a gateway to the human planet Azeroth. After Illidan fled Azeroth in fear of Kil'Jaden (read Illidan's episode pls) and proclaimed the Outland (formerly known as Draenor) as his own domain, he aided Velen's people with killing the remaining orcs and recapturing some of their lands. As a rewarding gesture, Velen's people stole one of the N'aru spaceships Illidan and his friends acquired and tried to flew it into another uncharted planet. Unfortunately, they crash landed once again, this time on human planet Azeroth, deep in Night Elf territory. The night elves helped them recover and offered a peace treaty. He gets on very well with the Alliance and eventually becomes Anduin's tutor. During the third demon invasion of Azeroth, Velen teams up with Illidan to kill his former friend Kil'Jaedan and end the burning legion once and for all.

Pyros. I got nothing on this dude. Phoenixes exist in warcraft, blood elven mages use them as their fire spells. Fire Hawks also exist, they are pure elementals of fire represented in bird form.
