PullsDay Thursday: Post Your Popped Packs

Posted: 21 Mar 2018 05:10 PM PDT

Greetings Travellers,

This is a new weekly thread to showcase your crazy or unlucky pack openings, for F2P players and whales alike!

The goal of this thread is to draw discussion around pack openings into a centralized post every week, so that players have a dedicated place to share their pulls. Whether you got a sweet Tavern Brawl reward or Arena chest, we want to see it! You can also post in /r/HSPulls.

Pack Openings are still relegated to a megathread on the first day of a new expansion

Note: I am a bot. Questions or feedback regarding this thread? Message the moderators.

Does this Starcraft themed brawl not feel very...Starcrafty?

Posted: 21 Mar 2018 09:58 PM PDT

I know there were some portals in the original Starcraft games but this is the best the team could do for a brawl where anything goes? Ehhh, lame.

This week's Tavern Brawl is "Portals to Another Dimension" for Starcraft's 20th Anniversary (March 21, 2018)

Posted: 21 Mar 2018 09:00 AM PDT

YOU MUST CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PORTALS

Description: Portals are tearing open everywhere! What lies beyond is something alien, yet familiar. . . . Choose a class to start with a few cards and then choose a Portal-type to fill the rest of your deck.

Prize: 3 Kobolds and Catacombs packs

Chalk Board

Blog Post Announcement

Portal descriptions from Blizzard:

  • Tech – Mechs! Guns! Explosions! This portal brings victory via technology!

  • Swarm – If it stalks, oozes toxic sludge, or has jagged spines, it might slither from beyond this portal.

  • Mind – If it is psychic power you seek, find it by ascending through this portal.

After making your decision, 20 portals cards will be added to your 10 Class cards to complete your deck! Cast portals to add minions and spells to your hand that are all themed to the classic factions of StarCraft—and cost three mana less! Prove which Class and Portal combination is the most potent path to supremacy!

Archbishop Benedictus can FINALLY shine!

Posted: 21 Mar 2018 08:01 AM PDT

This requires a lot of context.

So. I'm playing Lyra Priest in Wild. Pretty typical deck, massive amounts of spells and whatnot, able to get dragons down with Dragon Soul, that sort of thing.

So I'm queuing in Casual, turn 1 Mind Vison to see what's up with my Rogue opponent... Sap? Oh god, must be a Mill Rogue.

It sadly was. So I got about my business, surviving and casting spells... Then I hit Benedictus. Being the genius that I am, I play it. Then my opponent Gangs Up Benedictus and this match got INTERESTING.

So we spend a few turns exchanging Beneductuses and now we both have full on Mill Rogues with sneaky Benedictuses to refill our decks. As you might imagine, this match hasn't even ended yet and it's the highlight of my day. Sadly I ended up milling Dragon Soul before I could properly abuse it, but I still got Yogg and other fun meme cards.

But it's not every day you have 49 cards in your deck.

Or 53...

Or 59. Which is one off the limit.

At this rate, this match will hit the 50 turn limit. Which would be absolutely hilarious, if not anticlimactic.

Fun fact: Psychic Screaming a into a full deck will destroy some minions! Woo!

It's over. Fuck man, that was fun while it lasted, but it took like, half an hour at LEAST. Absolute blast while it lasted, though!

Ben Brode said "There will eventually be a way to get old card backs again...but we don't know the best way to do this". Let's talk about ways to do this, because I'd love to be able to get some older card-backs.

In a recent Q&A, Ben Brode said "There will eventually be a way to get old card backs again. They still don't know the best way to accomplish this goal though, people who earned them in the past like feeling unique. There needs to be some difficulty in obtaining them.".

So let's talk about what Hearthstone could do about this.

From my perspective, I believe Blizzard would have a certain set of rules surrounding this:

  1. Can not be purchased with real-money(Blizzard want's players to log in and play every month, for fear they will miss something they can never get again. These card-backs must be obtained by doing something in-game.)

  2. Must be difficult to obtain, but not too difficult.(You shouldn't be able to get all 30 card-backs that you missed out on in a week - but you shouldn't have to get 12 wins in Arena to get a card-back you don't have.)

  3. The reward should be based on skill, randomness and time. It should take a while to obtain a missing card-back, and there should be some degree of skill involved, but nothing too-hard that the average player can't succeed in.

  4. The player needs to feel like they must log in every month and win 5 ranked games to get that months card-back. A player should not feel like they can log in whenever they feel like it and still be able to easily obtain whatever card-back they want. There needs to be a sense of urgency to play every month.

Ideas:

  1. Win 10 ranked games against someone using a specific card-back, to obtain that card-back(this only applies to monthly card-backs). For example, if you are missing the "Pandaria" card-back, you will need to win 10 ranked-games against players using the "Panderia" card-back. In the card-back section of your collection, it will tell you how many wins you have for that card-back, when clicking on a specific card-back(for example, "Cupcake card-back 4/10", "Rainbow card-back 0/10", etc.). Once you win 10 ranked games against players using a monthly card-back you don't have, it will unlock and be added to your collection.

  2. Charge 500 gold per monthly card-back(which can be purchased from the card-back section of your collection). This is equivalent to about 10 days worth of daily quests to obtain a missing card-back. It's a steep price to pay, but at least it makes them attainable. The downside to this is, people with money can easily obtain everything they're missing(but they would still have to play in many Arenas to do so).

  3. Make it a random daily quest reward. "The Collector! - Win 5 ranked games and receive a random monthly card-back you don't own". The quest could be very rare, but also encourage people more to log in every day. You would also not get this quest if your collection is complete.

If you have any ideas, please share.
